Hi all !
I know i said that i wouldn't be dying my hair after the last lilac disaster but when i received a update email from Garnier promoting their new hair color, i couldn't resist!
It it meant to be good for the hair as it has no ammonia in it but it also permanent. Its the first 'oil-powered' home hair colour!
I went straight to boots as soon as i had a spare moment as it is currently £5.99 so worth a go. i was so excited to get home and put the colour on. I love the excitement of changing hair colour, it may sound silly but it always makes me feel better. I chose the intense red as i had medium brown hair colour and love a nice bright colour that stands out.
Now i followed instructions applied the hair dye and it was nice to be able to sit in my room and apply a hair dye that doesn't have that strong smell that makes my eyes water. It was easy to apply and the bottle was a perfect shape. I found it didn't drip everywhere like all the other hair dyes i use do, even the mousse kind i end up getting every where. I left it on for 30 minutes as instructed.
Washed it off and had the usual issue with red where it looks like my head had been bleeding while i washed it off and im trying to make sure i don't stain the bath. Always wear gloves to avoid horrible stained hands. Not a good look!
I dried my hair awaiting the final result and i was really disappointed. Don't get me wrong, my hair was soft but the color was dull and not vibrant at all! it may have been because my hair doesn't hold colour very well but i don't think i will be using the reds in this range again! maybe the dark purple or browns would be better and i would be willing to try it again. I just think for £5.99 it was worth a go but i ended up grabbing some directions semi permanent hair colour ( review coming soon) and redyeing my hair the next day.
I had high hopes for this product and had seen so many reviews that said how good it was but it wasn't anything like i expected it to be! The best part was that it did keep my hair soft but i think that's to do with the conditioner that comes with it.
Sorry for the bad review guys but like i said, it could of just been my hair so i would love to see if anyone uses this hair dye, specially in red and gets on well! Let me know!
xx

I can relate i have been wanting lighter brown hair for a while i tried this product and changed for a lighter colour today however the colour is nothing compared to the box! Very dissapointed dont think il be using it again to be honest!
ReplyDeletei thought the same went in to boots to get a blonde colour thought id try it put it onto my grey roots and bleached blonde hair left on 30minutes know my hair is ginger roots and grey all over would,nt recomened it to anyone hair feels soft
ReplyDeleteOh no ! I find nice and easy the best ! Xx
DeleteQuestion: y'all prefer Nice and Easy? Hmmmmm ... need help here. My fav shade discontinued, again!
Deletetotally agree, think they have rushed this out without enough testing and development. Colour very patchy - have used colourants for years and know exactly how to use them - odd grey hairs just pinky-red, very patchy take-up of colour (hair was even tones before) and although it is now soft and shiny, it had a weird texture when wet AFTER conditioning, couldn't get a brush in it properly to blow-dry! Read many reviews today before contacting Garnier on facebook, lots of very similar complaints about texture and poor colours, both with reds and blondes. The bottle is crap too - how can you hold a smooth round shape with wet slippy plastic gloves, plus black plastic means you can't see if the glove tears. Poor product development all round, Garnier. Back to Recital for me.
ReplyDeleteI have seen a lot of bad reviews ! It he conditioner is what makes your hair soft ! As I am using it with my new hair colour ! Xx
DeleteJust tried this hair dye, I have a bit of grey at the front and it didn't color it. Also had a real heard time on getting my comb though my hair and it doesn't feel soft. With the label stating that it was the 1st oil powered colour, I thought that my hair would feel rely nice and soft. not impressed.
Deletei agree my mum had blonde hair so she only needed her roots doing so she decided to go with olia!! The end results were horrible as it turned her hair a grey bluey colour almost violet so were not very happy and it was very dissapointing !!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree my blonde hair turned out a grey bluey colour, dull & dry. I now have to redye again.:(
DeleteI agree, done olia in soft black but my hair feels rough not soft like perfect 10 results usually give me. Gutted cos got 3 olia ones as on offer in tesco. Won't be using again....very disappointed, said soft black but barely dark brown after 30 mins.
ReplyDeleteHi all.
ReplyDeleteSame problem with me. Vibrant red errr not! Tried olia due to the advert as I really wanted a show stopping red for my birthday party and all the xmas do's that are coming up! Olia cost twice my usual brand but I thought why not, have a little treat. So disappointed with it. Got pinkish / redish roots, hardly anything though the length and the only reason I havent put my usual colour over the top, to correct the mess, is im waiting for hubby to take photos of it so Garnier can look into my complaint! Really wish I didnt use it now. Guess I have learnt my lesson ALWAYS read loads of reviews prior to trying something new. Dont know why I didnt this time, I do with everything else!
Its digusting this olia wanted to go from blonde to dark brown I ended up ginger!!!
ReplyDeleteCat believe how many bad reviews they have got ! You would think they will review there product ! Hope you all managed to get your hair corrected !
ReplyDeleteX
I usually use nice and easy blonde and i thought i would give olia a try and i hate it, my hair looks terrible and i can't wait to dye it my usual colour again. I would not recommend this product to anyone!
ReplyDeleteI love nice and easy hair colours ! I just think they come out in such lovely shades !
DeleteAfter many years of being faithful to L'oreal i decided to try Olia. What a disappointment!!! what a waste of money!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy grey roots still there. Terrible coverage. I should have my money back!!! My hair is dull and with the roots still grey. Pointless!!!
Never again Garnier.
Same for me. Grey still there. A wasted hour of my life that I won't ever get back and $9 on sale in Canada! Rip off!
DeleteAbsolutely the same results. Terrible terrible patchy coverage of greys. Been colouring my own hair for over 15 years - perfect 10 has been great however wanted to try amonia free product - so disappointing. a total waste of money.
DeleteI done the same colour ^ I wanna dip dye my hair what colour would look nice with it?
ReplyDeleteI always think lilac is a good colour ! X
ReplyDeleteI have just rinsed off this 'blonde' dye & am absolutely fuming - my hair is what can only be described as a dirty, washed out brown colour! I will NEVER use this product again & am going to ask them for compensation. I am livid!
ReplyDeleteJulie, Nottingham
Same results with me!!! What the hell...refund!!!!
DeleteReally disapppinted with Intense Red. More of a reddish brown and extremely patchy. I've been colouring my hair for over ten years and it's the worst dye I've ever used. Back to Live XXL tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteUsed it yesterday and my 'deep red' is bright red roots and patchy. Even got my hairdresser sister to apply it. Cost me £6.99 and colour is nothing like on the box. Redying it today.
ReplyDeleteI just used 8.13 champagne blonde and it actually darkened my hair. I was already a level 7 before dying and wanted to go one level lighter and Im darker maybe a 6 now. It also left my hair rougher than other at home dyes have.
ReplyDeleteDespite sending them emails they have NOT responded to my complaint. I think we should contact the press xx
ReplyDeleteUsed olia on my moms hair - what a dreadful product. Moms now got a sort of silvery lilacy, whitey, hair colour! We were hoping for a normal warm blonde shade.
ReplyDeleteVery upset.
same problem. i also have been bleaching/dying my hair since i was about 15 and i wanted to try a new bleach. saw this one and figured i'd try it. it's effing horrible. i checked after 15 mins and no difference. went the full 30 and saw bits blonde and the rest of my roots brown. i didn't want to leave it in any longer so i washed it out. >_< i want my money back.
ReplyDeleteSame problem here ... I gave the 6.6 (vibrant red, same as yours) a try last week, and it turned red at the roots, orangey-pinkish on the ends. And some parts remained dark blonde, aka my natural color. Total disappointment, Olia is rubbish. Too bad, I was really excited about not having to use ammonia anymore. After that mess my only option was to have my hair dyed in a very dark color. Which definitely wasn't the plan ...
ReplyDeleteI was going to buy this dye. I'm so glad to read all of these comments as I don't think I'll bother now.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what everybody's problem is here, it must be user error! I bought and used this dye today (Iced Chocolate) and my hair has turned out exactly as it was supposed to on the box! My hair is long(ish), it comes to below my bust comfortably and one bottle was more than enough for my hair, I even found myself trying to use up the excess dye at the end. After washing it out my hair feels very soft (perhaps only due to the conditioner as I will agree it was a little hard to work with while wet after dying) and there is no odd patching / odd roots or generally bad results to be seen. I read these reviews before buying and still went ahead with it.. and I'm very glad I did!
ReplyDeleteI bought this before reading all the on-line comments - and might not have since a lot of people had negative things to say! I don't have a lot of experience with at-home haircolouring but wanted something easy (for that reason) and something that would leave my hair in good condition (which is why I have usually been afraid to do it myself). I am delighted with the results from Olia! I did not have trouble with drips or mess like other kinds I have used and had no trouble holding the bottle like some reviewers. I used my own gloves since almost always the gloves that come with these kits are bigger than my small hands. I used Dark Brown which is slightly darker than my own colour and I have a little gray at the temples and some white/gray hairs starting here & there & all were covered completely well. The dark was not too dark (which I have had with some brands) and in fact is beautiful and multi-tonal. It seems more people have problems with blond and red changes; maybe if your hair is already dyed one of these colours and you want to change it again it should be left to the experts! The texture of my hair was a bit weird after rinsing before I put in the conditioner but afterward is nice and ultimately it looks thicker and has more body. There was plenty of product & a little to spare for my hair, which is to the shoulder and medium thickness. Really I am thrilled and will definitely use it again, it is the best product I have tried so far.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone who says that this is a very disappointing product. I had high hopes for shiny vibrant hair. Ended up with light roots, dull, limp thin hair. It has been 2 weeks and my hair looks worse than it ever has. Never did cover the gray, and now it is really looking bad. I am going to wait a few weeks and then back to reliable Nice & Easy.
ReplyDeleteIt truthfully does damage your hair, makes it listless and dull. I hate it.
Please don't take the chance, it may work for you, but then again it may not and you will be miserable.
Wish id read these reviews. 15 years using home dyes. No complaints til now. Dye left hair matted, couldn't get brush through it when drying. Now got rough flyaway hair. Color wouldn't spread easily so patchy. Luckily I was only putting soft black on dark hair. Amazing they got this product so wrong. Just hope my hair goes normal on next wash.
ReplyDeleteThe television advertising of OLIA makes you want to try!!!! so changed from NEUTRICE same make GARNIER !! same number 10 and ended up (dark ash) or awful dark grey as a hairdresser for over 40 years i managed to rectify it with difficulty i might add!! and with tecniques i could never use on clients i have also heard of 2 other ladies the same happened to!!!they had to go to a salon for help with very high costs Product needs to be looked into by the company !!!!
ReplyDeleteI tried olia and it made my hair red, but you could hardly notice it. Now Ive used L'Oreal high shine elixir, it's much better and more shiny. But trust me, like it says on all the boxes if you have blonde hair first, it works best, so its better spending a couple of extra quid and getting a blonde dye aswell! XXX
ReplyDeleteP.S. I wouldn't advice getting 1 with no ammonia-its not as good!
Terrible product - made my scalp itchy and irritated - will never use again!
ReplyDeleteI too wish I had read this site before I tried using Olia. I have always used Garnier Nutresse with no problem but because this product says ammonia free I thought I'd give it a go! Bad move, my hair is now a grey dirty colour! A used the light blonde which is what I always use and its terrible! Will try washing it twice a day to get it to fade but I would never use this again and will write to them to complain tomorrow !! Do not use it!!!
ReplyDeleteUuggghh me too! I had my hair the perfect color. I wanted a touch up and bought this stuff thinking i would be doing my hair a favor and no. My hair was originally a really light brown.. i bought the light golden brown olia stuff and now my hair is dark dark brown. About the color of natural hair. Really really ticked off...
ReplyDeleteBought vibrant red . Put it on washed it off and my hair which was brite red before was a dark reddu brown not rhianna red like i had it years was livid!!!! Do not buy this product it will ruin ur hair now its dull n made me miserable.
ReplyDeleteWell dang I just put the color in my hair and decided to look up and see what people thought of it while I waited!!!! Hoping its not horrible):
ReplyDeleteI have this waiting for me, but I've seen so many bad reviews for Olia! I've been dying my hair black, so I have it in 1.0. I think I'll just stick with John Freida Natural Black hair color. That worked wonders for me. If anyone is willing to try John Freida, I highly recommend it!
ReplyDelete-Lauren A.
So my hair is originally dark brownish red, i wanted to dye my hair black so i bought this olia brand in black. At first I was very impressed with the packaging, the scent smelled very nice; not too strong. although the bottle is cute, it was really hard to hold and shake then apply. I thought i would be impressed with the results but boyyyyyy I WAS WRONG!! The color didn't really show as much, I still have reddish brown tints in my hair which was really disappointing because i wanted a nice black. I will never buy this product again. NEVER!
ReplyDeleteThis product is the most horrible thing I have used on my hair ever. I had really nice bright blonde hair. Bought Very Light Blonde shade 10 colour. Left in for 30 min. When I saw the result in the mirror I started to cry. My hair is purple/ blue/ grey all the colours at the same time. I have been so upset because now my lovely blonde colour is gone. I don't know what to do. I'm even embaressed to go outside of my house. Hair looks awful!
ReplyDeleteI just put it on my hair too and decided to look up reviews....maybe I should have checked before! I usually dye my hair red, but my hair always turns black-ish no matter what brand. I used the intense red 6.6 and it is bright red on my head now. Fingers crossed it comes out ok. I always have to use 2 boxes as my hair is all the way down my back. Had no problems with the amount. The shape of the bottle was a little weird but had no problems with it.
